Abstract

[Also in Division B8] A plastics container is drawn from a blank 10 comprising a central portion 12 surrounded by corrugations 20-34. By adjusting the thicknesses of the various portions of the blank, a container having the desired thickness distribution and utilizing the minimum amount of material can be made. As shown in Fig. 3B, the blank is peripherally clamped and the centre portion drawn to straighten the corrugations by a plunger 42. The resultant body may comprise the desired article or may be expanded by gas pressure against a surrounding mould having a cavity of the desired configuration (see Fig. 4, not shown). In an alternative embodiment the blank is drawn by a heated plunger having a shape corresponding to the intermediate body before expansion into the surrounding mould (see Figs. 6A-6E, not shown).
