Abstract

PURPOSE:To produce a wholly homogeneous formed foam by blowing steam through slender pipes into the portion where the bead filling thickness is larger so as to heat and foam the beads in the cavity evenly. CONSTITUTION:Metal molds 1 and 2 are separated, and a skin member 5 is vacuum-formed using the mold 1 as a vacuum forming mold. With the molds 1 and 2 fastened together, foamable polystyrene beads 4 are filled into a cavity 3 through a pipe 21. Slender pipes 23' are projected into the cavity 3 at least at that portion where the bead filling thickness is larger. With steam introduced into a chamber 22 of the mold 2 through a pipe 24, the beads 4 foams uniformly to be a formed polystyrene bead foam provided integrally with the skin member 5 on its face. With the introduction of steam stopped, cooling water is introduced into the chamber 22 through a pipe 26 and into a chamber 15 of the mold 1 through a pipe 16 to cool the formed foam. Then the molds are separated and the formed body is taken out.
