Abstract

115,933. Ames, R. June 19, 1917. Aerating.-In apparatus for aerating sewage by rotary or travelling air-diffusers of the kind described in Specifications 104,361, 107,937, and 110,197, the sewage is supplied to the tanks through vertical tubes 17 carried by a travelling or rotary carriage and provided with bell-mouthed lower ends 13 containing rotary propellers 26, which draw air into the sewage through hollow shafts 16 and through pipes 33 open at the top to the atmosphere and leading to the bellmouthed bases. Troughs 5 on the carriage, which receive sewage, in the case of a travelling carriage, by siphon pipes dipping into a longitudinal trough at the side of the sewage tank and, in the case of rotary apparatus, by means such as described in Specification 110,197, communicate by tubes 12 with the vertical tubes 17. To enable the rotary propellers 26 to be withdrawn from the tubes 17, the blades are hinged and are normally held in horizontal position by lugs 29 on their inner ends pressed by a spring-pressed plate 30.
