Abstract

1364696 Mixing gases and liquids F L KLEINIG 17 Nov 1971 [4 Dec 1970[ 53355/71 Heading B1C [Also in Division F1] Liquid injection apparatus for use with I.C. engine consists of a liquid container and a float having means for enabling liquid to be drawn from the container and producing an air-liquid mixture, and a pipe leading from the means to the venturi of a carburettor, the pipe allowing free movement of the float as the liquid level in the container changes. Container 10 is closed by a stopper which a rigid tube 12 is held. There is an air vent 13 through the stopper. A float 14 slides on the tube and carries a jet 15 so that it is submerged to a constant depth below the liquid surface. The jet 15 leads to a tube 17 which is connected by a flexible tube 18 to the bottom of tube 12, the upper end of which is connected by a tube 21 to the venturi 22a of a carburettor. Air bleed holes 19 are provided in the tube 17, there is a further hole 20 in the tube 12 and three more holes 27 in a fitting 26. Rubber sleeves 28 are provided to close each of the holes 26 as required, to vary the conditions of engine operation at which liquid begins to be drawn in. A dashboard control 24 opens a line 22 to break the suction in the line 21 during cold-starting. For multiple carburettor installations, three separate jets, individually connected to respective carburettors, are mounted on a single float, Fig. 2 (not shown.)
