Abstract
1,159,292. Pressure-resisting covers. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. 31 Oct., 1966 [18 Nov., 1965], No. 49083/65. Heading F2P. A substantially spherically dished cover 16 presents the convex side thereof to the inside of a pressure vessel 16, and a circumferential sealing face extends inwardly of the mouth of a pressure vessel 10, the cover being elastically deformed, e.g. by the use of a screw or hydraulic jack mounted on the concave side of the cover, to give the cover an elliptical circumference the lesser diameter of which is small enough to permit insertion of the cover into the mouth of the vessel. Holding clamps 18 may be used. In a modification, the diameter of the cover is greater than the diameter of the mouth of the vessel and is forced into and held in position by a retaining ring secured by studs to the vessel.
