Abstract
324,526. Griffiths, W. Owen-. Jan. 28, 1929. Digester and like covers.-In a vessel A for cooking under pressure, the upper edge A' overbangs the lid B, which is pressed upwards by internal pressure and also held by a tightening bar C. The bar C is provided with integral trunnions C<1> adapted to engage hook-like slots D<1> in a pair of vertical arms D secured to the lid but independent of the handle E. The bar C is tightened by a screw C<2> bearing on the rim A'. In a modification, Fig. 3 (not shown), the arms D may be splayed out and riveted to the lid at four points which are spaced out so that the pull on the lid is uniformly distributed around the rim. The arms may have some resilience to take up distortion.
