Abstract

1,158,712. Two-part couplings. FORD MOTOR CO. Ltd. 20 Oct., 1966, No. 46967/66. Heading H2E. A plug and socket connector, particularly for making electrical connection through the bulkhead of a motor vehicle, comprises a socket 2 mounted in an aperture in the bulkhead and carrying conductors 8, terminated at 8a in the engine compartment, for connection with a plug 1 carrying contacts 7b and conductors 7, some of which have terminals 7x, 7y to receive cartridge-fuses 9 located in externally accessible recesses. The fuses may alternatively be located in the socket. The socket 2 has a sealing flange 4 to bear against the bulkhead, polarizing lugs 5 to enter corresponding recesses 6 in the plug, and has a funnel-shaped entrance 2b resiliently expanded by the plug part 1b on coupling to act as a seal.
