Abstract
1,157,960. Positioning slab reinforcement. NATIONAL RESEARCH DEVELOPMENT CORP. 30 Nov., 1966 [2 Dec., 1965], No 51274/65. Heading E1G. In laying reinforced concrete road slabs, the longitudinal reinforcing members 13, which are not laterally interconnected, are raised to position within the thickness of the slab while the slab is conformed to its desired profile. The reinforcing rods 13, which the of ribbed, or like deformed section, are laid on the road bed and secured at the commencing end of the slab preferably to the joint dowel bars. Concrete is poured and the rods are lifted by the engagement of transverse feet on vertical shafts 11. The shafts 11 are carried by a paver having a conforming, or screed, plate 15 which moves to render the slab to the desired profile. The shafts are rotatable to engage and disengage the rods at the ends of travel and may have one or two transverse feet. The feet may be replaced by a transverse bar having lower loops for the reception of the reinforcing rods and upper loops for hooks carried by the slip-form paver.
