Abstract

115,766. Berrill, M. Oct. 24, 1917. Ladder escapes. - A portable fire - escape, which may be combined with a dressing-table or washstand, comprises a movable stand 1 on castors having a semi-enclosed inierior, in which is mounted in spring- supported bearings 16 a drum 6 having a steel or other fire-proof rope ladder 8 mounted thereon. The ladder is lowered by means of a weight 9 with projecting arms 10 adapted to hold it a short distance from the wall. The sides of the stand are provided with openings 4, through which the drum 6 is passed. The stand is provided with an inspection opening at the top, and hand rails 26.
