Abstract

1,157,576. Valves; pipe joints. OSMA PLASTICS Ltd. 5 Jan., 1968 [17 Nov., 1966], No. 51490/66. Headings F2G and F2V. A tap comprises a spindle threadedly engaged with an insert 24 and rotatable by a knob 30 with a square section recess 32 engaging a square end 33 of the spindle. Rotation of the spindle causes a removable seal 6 thereon to move towards or away from a seat 5 to control the flow of water from an inlet 10 to a flow straightening spout 7. The insert 24 is held in place by a spring clip 27 with upstanding arms 29 engaging in circumferentially aligned grooves in interfitting lugs 25 of the insert and lugs 28 of the tap body. The knob 30 is in threaded engagement with a ring 35 which is axially captive between a shoulder 36 of the body and the insert lugs 25 to prevent axial movement of the knob but allow its rotation. A mounting stem 10 may be threaded into the tap body or may be welded therein if the valve components are of plastics, in which case the stem 10 is tapered at 15 and has a shoulder 14 against which a metal ring 16 is seated to be connected to an electrical supply to perform induction welding.
