Abstract

1,139,435. Branch fittings. EDWARD BARBER & CO. Ltd. 12 June, 1967 [1 Aug., 1966], No. 34399/66. Heading F2G. A ferrule-type valve or tap for fitting into a fluid supply pipe comprises a tubular body 1 having, on its outer surface, between a flange 8 and its inlet end 10, parallel encircling ribs 9 forming a corrugated surface adapted for force fitting into a resilient tubular seal 12 which has been previously inserted into a plain circular aperture in the fluid supply pipe, a bead 14 on the end of the seal 12 within the supply pipe being adapted to engage a groove 11 in the body 1 to lock the body in place and prevent withdrawal, while permitting the body to be rotated about its axis. The body is provided internally with a screw thread 5 receiving a screw-in control member 6 adapted to control flow of fluid to an outlet 2 in the side of the body which is also threaded either internally or externally for the connection of a delivery pipe thereto. A retainer cap 15 and dust cover 17 are also provided. The member 6, which as shown has a socket for receiving a tool inserted through cap 15, may be replaced by a member (20, Fig. 2, not shown) having a stem (21) the upper end (22) of which projects through the cap 15 for engagement by a handle or tool.
