Abstract

[Also in Divisions A3 and E2] A " split-stole " type of lifejacket having a structure such as a waistcoat or harness 10 for attachment to the wearer is provided with a parachute harness 16, 17, 20 detachably mounted on the inside of the attachment structure 10 by press-studded flaps 12, the two free ends of the parachute harness webs 20 being adjustably secured one to each part 23 or 24 of a fastener for the attachment structure 10. This arrangement enables one fastener 23, 24 to fasten both the waistcoat and the parachute harness on the wearer. The fastener is in the form of two metal plates 23, 24 secured by fabric loops 35 sewn to the waistcoat and passing through slots 26 in the plates 23, 24. The edge of the plate 24 is provided with spaced beads 29 which engage in key-hole slots (not shown) in spaced lugs on the opposing edge of the plate 23. A spring- loaded catch 31 prevents the beads from leaving the key-hole slots. To enable adjustment of the webs 20, each passes around a bar 33 located in a slot 32 in its plate 23 or 24 before passing to the outside of the jacket through a slot 34. An oxygen regulator may be detachably mounted on the plates by means of key-hole slots 38. The ends of the harness webs 16, 17 pass through slots 26, 27 to a buckle 18.
