Abstract

1,152,631. Inflatable lifejackets. FRANKENSTEIN GROUP Ltd. 5 Dec., 1967 [5 Jan., 1967], No. 702/67. Heading B7U. A one-piece lifejacket of the type having a main buoyancy chamber B<SP>1</SP> intended to overlie the wearer's chest and a secondary buoyancy chamber B<SP>2</SP> around a keyhole shaped neck aperture, E<SP>2</SP>, has the opposite edges of the slot portion E<SP>1</SP> of the aperture mechanically drawn together by the automatic tensioning of two tapes I caused by inflation of the lifejacket The drawing together of the slot portion E<SP>1</SP> prevents the wearer's head from passing through the aperture during, e.g. impact with water. Each tape I is secured to a fabric patch G on one side of the slot and passes through a loop H secured to the patch G on the other side of the slot, before being secured to an individual or common patch J. The patches J, G move away from each other on inflation to thereby tension the tapes.
