Abstract

1,157,254. Door closing appliance; stays. WILLIAM NEWMAN & SONS Ltd. 23 Feb., 1968 [20 Dec., 1966], No. 56853/66. Headings E2F and E2M. A door 2 fitted with a spring closing device 1 having a vertical spindle 3 adapted to be coupled to the door frame 4 by means of two jointed-together control arms, 5, 6, is held open by the interaction of an offset cam projection 10, with a spring-loaded plunger 15 in a housing 13 on the arm 5. The control arm 6 is pivoted to a bracket 7 for attachment to the transom 4, and has its outer end bent horizontally to form a short offset portion 8, the extremity of which overlaps and is jointed at 9 to the free end of the control arm 5 which is attached to the spindle 3 fixed upon the offset portion 8 by the joint pin 9 and inlet 12 is a cam member 10 with a pointed nose 11, projecting beyind the joint pin 9. A compression spring 14 acts on the sliding plunger 15, the end of which projects through the end of the housing 13 into the direction of the control arm 6, and carries a roller 16 on a vertical pivot 17 for cooperating with the cam member 10. Outward movement of the plunger 15 in its housing is limited by a pin 18 on the plunger engaging a slot 19 in the housing.
