Abstract

1,157,143. 2-Adamantanamine and derivatives thereof. E. I. DU PONT DE NEMOURS & CO. 21 June, 1966, No. 27754/66. Heading C2C. [Also in Division A5] 2-Adamantanamine is prepared by oxidizing adamantane with air in the presence of benzoyl peroxide and cobalt acetate tetrahydrate to give 1-adamantanol and 2-adamantanone (which is identified by its oxime and 2,4-dinitrophenylhydrazone) and contacting the 2-adamantanone with hydrogen and ammonia in the presence of a palladium-on-alumina catalyst. N-methyl-, N-ethyl-, N-hexyl-, N-(3-methoxypropyl)-, N,N- dimethyl-, N-ethyl-N-methyl-, N-allyl-, N,N- diallyl-, N-propargyl-, N,N-dipropargyl-, N-(2- diethylaminoethyl)-, N - hydroxymethyl-, N - hydroxymethyl - N - methyl-, N - (diethylaminomethyl) - N - methyl-, N - (2 - hydroxyethyl)-, N,N - di - (2 - hydroxyethyl)-, N - formyl- and N - chloro - 2 - adamantanamine and N - (2 - adamantyl) pyrrolidine, N - (2 - adamantyl) glycine ethyl ester, 2-adamantyl azomethine and 2- benzaldiminoadamantane, and their salts, are prepared from 2-adamantanamine by usual methods via the intermediates ethyl adamant-2- ylurethane, N - caproyl - 2 - adamantamine, N - acetyl - N - methyl - 2 - adamantanamine and N-(2-adamantanyl) succinimide.
