1,145,543. 20-Chloropregnenes. DEUTSCHE AKADEMIE DER WISSENSCHAFTEN ZU BERLIN. 16 June, 1967, No. 27804/67. Heading C2U. Novel 20-chloro-pregnenes of the formula (wherein R is hydrogen or acetyl) and their novel #<SP>1</SP>'<SP>4</SP> analogues are prepared from #<SP>5</SP>- spirosolane alkaloids of the formula by reducing them with NaBH 4 to obtain compounds of the formula Oppenauer oxidation of the latter yields the corresponding 3-keto-#<SP>4</SP> compounds which are then N-chlorinated with N-chlorosuccinimide, the resulting N-chloro compounds being then irradiated with U.V. light in the presence of an acid (e.g. trifluoroacetic to obtain a mixture of isomers (20-S and 20-R) of Formula IV (R = H) which may be separated chromatographically. The #<SP>1,4</SP> analogues are obtainedbydehydrogenation of compounds of Formula IV (e.g. with dichlorodicyanobenzoquinone) and 16#-acetoxy derivatives are obtained from the hydroxy compounds by acetylation
