1,156,881. 1 ,3-disilyl-1 ,3-diaza-2-silacycloalkanes. MONSANTO CO. 13 July, 1966 [13 July, 1965], No. 31411/66. Heading C3S. 1,3 - disilyl - 1,3 - diaza -2 - silacycloalkanes of the general formula I wherein R<SP>1</SP> and R<SP>2</SP> are the same or different and represent hydrogen or fluorine atoms, or substituted or unsubstituted, saturated or unsaturated aliphatic groups, aromatic groups or heterocyclic groups which may be linked by sulphur or oxygen atoms, or silyl or silyloxy groups, or, when taken together, form a substituted or unsubstituted heterocyclic ring with the attached Si atom, R<SP>3</SP> represents a substituted or unsubstituted, saturated or unsaturated, divalent aliphatic hydrocarbon group linked through carbon atoms to the ring nitrogen atoms in 1,2- or 1,3-positions, or a divalent aromatic or heterocyclic group linked through carbon atoms to the nitrogen atoms in ortho-positions or a divalent polynuclear group linked through carbon atoms to the nitrogen atoms in peripositions, any of the above divalent groups containing optionally, in a substituent, an -O-, -S-, -S-S-, -NH-, -NR-, -SiR<SP>1</SP> 2 , >NSiR<SP>1</SP> 3 , -SO-, or -SO 2 - grouping, where R and R<SP>1</SP> are organic groups, X represents a halogen atom and n is an integer from 1 to 10 are prepared by reacting an excess of H 2 N - R<SP>3</SP>-NH 2 with R<SP>1</SP>R<SP>2</SP>SiX 2 at a temperature below 100‹ C., and then adding the required quantity of halosilane, and heating. The temperature of the first reaction step is initially below 100‹ C,. is then preferably raised for at least 10 minutes at the end of the step, and after addition of further halosilane, is kept at 60-400‹ C. The first step is preferably carried out in the presence of an inert solvent. The compounds of the invention are novel, with the exception of 1,3-bis(dimethylchlorosilyl) - 2,2 - dimethyl - 1,3 - diaza - 2 - silacyclopentane.
