1369303 Heterocyclic compounds BAYER AG 3 March 1972 [4 March 1971] 10059/72 Heading C2C Novel heterocyclic compounds of the general formula wherein A is a divalent, optionally substituted, aliphatic, cycloaliphatic, araliphatic or aromatic radical having its free valencies so placed that the ring it forms with X and the adjacent nitrogen atom is 5- or 6-membered; X is oxygen; the group -(-CRR<SP>1</SP>)nis a (C 2 -C 15 ) divalent aliphatic radical optionally interrupted by one or more hetero atoms, and/or optionally substituted arylene and/or heteroarylene radicals; n is an integer from 2 to 15; R and R<SP>1</SP> are hydrogen, halogen, or a nitro radical or an optionally substituted aliphatic, cycloaliphatic, araliphatic or aromatic radical, or together represent a divalent aliphatic, cycloaliphatic, araliphatic or aromatic radical and complete a ring together with the intervening carbon atom; R<SP>2</SP> is hydrogen or an optionally substituted aliphatic, cycloaliphatic, araliphatic or aromatic radical; may be prepared by a novel process for preparing compounds of the above general formula wherein X is oxygen, sulphur, or if A is not an aliphatic radical, a radical of the formula NR<SP>2</SP>, by reacting an aminoalcohol, aminothiol or diamine of the formula with a cyclic imine of the formula or a cyclic amine of the formula at a temperature of from - 20‹ to + 300‹ C., wherein Y and Z are " nucleofugal " groups (defined) which are eliminated as anions during the course of the reaction. The cyclic amine or cyclic imine may be prepared in situ by reacting a lactam with an acid chloride, and the process of the invention is preferably carried out in the presence of an acid, Lewis acid, tertiary amine, alkali metal or base as an accelerator.
