Abstract
1,156,833. Refrigerating. SIEMENSSCHUCKERTWERKE A.G. 8 Aug., 1966 [7 Aug., 1965], No. 35495/66. Heading F4H. A cryostat comprises three cylindrical walled containers 1, 2 and 3 of annular cross-section supported by tubes 41, 43 and 42 respectively. The outer containers 1 and 2 are each in two halves which are. screwed to rings 44 and 45 carried by the tubes 41 and 43, and the inner container 3 is connected directly to the tube 42. The container walls 15 and 33 are each welded to a container end-piece at one end and screwed to a container end piece at the other end. The container wall 25 is push fitted in its end pieces. A cap 47 on the tube assembly has apertures for the supply of liquid helium to the container 3, and of liquid nitrogen or air to the double outer wall space 21 of the container 2. A connection 46 is provided for evacuating the spaces on either side of the walls of the container 2. The containers 1 and 3 and their supporting tubes are formed of low thermal conductivity steel, and the container 2 and its tube are formed of copper. A superconductive coil is located in the container 3 and may be fixed to its inner wall or to one of its end walls. The container 3 may be formed as two halves screwed to a central ring, Fig. 2 (not shown), and the inner wall of the container 3 may be formed as a coil winding support, Fig. 3 (not shown).
