Abstract

1,156,555. Casting processes. AMSTED INDUSTRIES Inc. 30 Sept., 1966 [14 Oct., 1965], No. 43790/66. Heading B3F. In a method of successively bottom pressure pouring moulds 10 from a tank 16, the weight of a ladle (30) (Fig. 2, not shown) and the molten metal (34) contained therein is ascertained from load cells (32) contained in the air pressurized tank 16 from which weight the volume of the molten metal is calculated, the aggregate volume of the moulds 10 are then determined and adjustment is made to at least one of the moulds 10 to render the said aggregate volume to at least 85% of the volume of the molten metal. The mould 10 may be adjusted in volume by positioning the rear end block (58) (Fig. 3, not shown) of the mould by a poweroperated piston-rod (68). The moulds 10 are movable along tracks 14 until their pouring gates (22) are aligned with the pouring tube (22) of the tank 16. A jack 24 raises the rear end of the mould to lower the pouring gate on to an air sealing tube cap 40 and air pressure is raised in the tank 16 to pour the molten metal into the mould.
