Abstract

1,155,596. Planographic printing-surfaces. A.B. DICK CO. 7 July, 1966 [20 July, 1965], No. 30857/65. Heading B6C. [Also in Division G2] Planographic printing blanks comprise a support having a water-insoluble, hydrophilic, lithographic surface which is coated with an aqueous solution of a stannous halide and a water-soluble tetravalent zirconium or thorium salt. The blank may be imaged by a typewriter, pen, pencil or a photographic process (see Division G2). The support is preferably paper which has been coated with a polymer (e.g. casein, starch, carboxymethyl cellulose, polyacrylic acid, alginic acid, polyvinyl acetate, polyvinyl pyrrolidone or polyvinyl chloride) and optionally a hydrophilic filler (e.g. clay or zinc oxide) to render the surface lithographic. A reducing agent (e.g. a phenol) may be added to the aqueous solution to stabilize the metal salts therein.
