Abstract

1,155,502. Automatic frequency control systems. INTERNATIONAL STANDARD ELECTRIC CORP. 20 Jan., 1967 [21 Jan., 1966], No. 3134/67. Addition to 1,111,355. Heading H3A. A system as described in Specification 1,111,355 wherein the frequency of a variable frequency oscillator is too high initially and is reduced incrementally so long as two pulses derived by frequency division from the oscillator reach a frequency comparator unit within the interval between two reference pulses, is characterized in that the phase discriminator which subsequently controls the oscillator is set to a mean value during the initial search period. The phase discriminator (Figs. 6 and 8, not shown), may comprise a sawtooth generator triggered by one input and sampled by the other input, the sample being stored on a memory capacitor feeding a high impedance output circuit. During the search period a signal is applied to the output circuit so that it produces a mean output voltage. The output of the phase discriminator may be fed directly to the oscillator (Fig. 2, not shown) or may be fed to the digital-to-analogue converter operated by the frequency comparator unit and controlling the oscillator frequency (Fig. 3, not shown).
