Abstract

1293584 Frequency control systems SIEMENS AG 3 Nov 1969 [2 Nov 1968] 53882/69 Heading H3A An apparatus for providing pulses of adjustable frequency, eg. from source 2, comprises a variable frequency divider 3 connected to a first input unit comprising a forward and backward counter 6 for adjusting the division ratio, a pulse train source 8 and an arrangement 10, 12 for controlling the direction of counting depending upon the sign of the difference between the actual output frequency at 4 and a desired frequency signal present at 14, a comparator 24 to which signals from a second input unit 22 and the output of a counter 6 are applied to derive a control signal for blocking counter 6 or allowing it to count. The arrangement 10, 12 may comprise two separate devices as shown or a single three-step action element comprising. adjustable threshold devices providing an output depending on the sign of the difference frequency when it exceeds a predetermined value. For varying the frequency of the input pulse train to the counter 6 in dependence upon the difference frequency, a voltage to frequency converter is included in generator 8, the input voltage of which is provided by a controller 20 which compares signals representing the desired and instantaneous output frequencies. During a change of the counter reading, a memory .circuit maintains the previous division ratio of divider 3. The counter may be uncoupled from the generator 8 when the frequency difference is zero and the signals representing the counter reading are applied to the divider 3.
