Abstract

1,155,494. Root-slicer. SOC. ANON. DES FONDERIES ET ATELIERS L. CHOQUENET. 29 Jan., 1968 [22 Feb., 1967], No. 4448/68. Heading A4. A root-slicer comprises a vat 1 containing in its lower portion a pair of concentric plates 11 and 17 formed with recesses 12 and 18 respectively for lodging knife-boxes, the plate 11 being supported by arms 10 mounted on a central shaft 9 and by vertically adjustable roller bearings 14 at its periphery and the plate 17 being supported by a shaft 15 surrounding shaft 9, the gap between the plate 17 and rim 11 being covered by a circular penthouse-shaped rib 19. The tubular shaft 15 is movable in the vertical direction by engagement of worm gear 25 and nut 24 and the slicer is provided with contoured deflectors 6 and 7 which serve to direct the roots to the knives. Preferably the speed of at least one of the shafts is variable. In an alternative embodiment (Fig. 2, not shown) the outer plate is driven by peripheral teeth (13b) co-operating with one or more pinions (29) driven by a lateral shaft (30), or a friction drive on the rim may be used.
