Abstract

935,568. Pellet extrusion machines. E. N. MEAKIN. July 17, 1961 [Dec. 27, 1960], No. 25768/61. Class 87(2). A pellet extrusion machine comprises three extrusion rolls 31, 37, 41 equally spaced in a perforated die 115, rotation of the rolls causing the die 115 to rotate and forcing the material through the orifices to be cut by knives 199. The rolls 31, 37 are mounted on fixed shafts 29, 35 which are each journalled in two bearings 17. The position of the third roll 41 mounted on a shaft 65 is adjusted by a lever 43 and screw 59 to enable the die to be mounted and removed. The shaft 35 is linked to the shafts 29, 65 by a sprocket chain 83 and is driven by a motor 89 and gears 85. Alternatively, the adjustable roll is mounted in bearings 217, 219, Fig. 7, and bearing housings 225, 223 which have gears 231 adapted to mesh with a drive pinion 233. Its position is adjusted by rotation of a wheel 241. The lubricant for the bearings is prevented from contaminating the pellet material by a plate 125 or 127, Fig. 7, having sealing members.
