Abstract

1,174,758. Cutting sugar beet. H. C. RADINGER. 19 April, 1968 [28 April, 1967], No. 18519/68. Heading A4C. A cutter for sugar beet and other tuberous produce comprises a shaft 1 having a cutting disc 2 mounted thereon, and a drive motor 3 with a reduction gear 4 connected directly to the shaft 1 and arranged coaxially above the cutting disc 2, the hub 5 of said cutting disc being in a downwardly projecting recess in which are dispersed the hub 6 of a cover disc 7, which supports the lower ends of charging shafts 10 and pressing or packing ducts (9), and a mounting 8 for the shaft 1. The drive motor 3 is seated in a dome 11 inside the hopper 10<SP>1</SP> which has at least one aperture 12 which is necessary for insertion of the knife boxes and removal of the motor 3 and gear 4. The motor and gear are moved by lifting devices 15 mounted on rails 13 having supports 14 fastened to the dome or hopper.
