Abstract

1,155,491. Erecting buildings and tanks. J. H. WIGGINS. 18 Jan., 1967 [21 Feb., 1966], No. 2715/67. Headings E1S and E1T. A metal storage tank or a skeleton building framework is erected by pre-fabricating the roof or part thereof, and successive periperal wall lifts or storey-high frameworks at ground level,- together with floor assemblies also, it required, and employing lifting gear on, e.g. the roof, in combination, if necessary, with pulleys fixed on the wall or framework to raise the roof into a position at the top of each successive lift, fix it in this position, and then hoist the next wall lift into position, and so on. The lifting gear may comprise a pivoted boom 49 in combination with winching apparatus 54, and the roof may be temporarily supported by hooks 86 engaging over a bar welded to the wall. The roof may be raised by the same winching apparatus, but with the cable 57 passing under the pulley 47 and over a pulley arranged at the top of the wall lift and fixed to the bottom of the The storage tank, which may be for oil, gas, etc.; has adjacent metal plates welded horizontally and vertically, and thinner plates may be employed for successive lifts, (Fig. 3, not shown). Means are described for temporarily locating adjacent plates in position before the welding takes place.
