Abstract

1,155,035. Thermographic processes. GEVAERT-AGFA N.V. June 24, 1966, No.28554/66. Heading G2C. A thermographic process comprises imagewise exposing a layer containing a polymeric material selected from ethyl hydroxyethylcellulose, hydroxypropyl starch, sodium salt of ethylcellulose phthalate, sodium salt of carboxymethyl starch, polysiloxanes, carboxymethyl esters of amylose and amylopectin, melamine-and urea-aldehyde resins, starch, cellulose sulphate, starch phosphate, alginic acid and its salts and esters, and vinyl methyl ether/maleic anhydride or maleic acid monoamide copolymer, and containing over the whole of the layer a substance which absorbs the radiant energy and is heated thereby so that the heating causes the polymeric material to be heated and become less soluble in water or aqueous media. In the examples, a support is coated with the heatsensitive polymer and carbon black dispersion and the heat-sensitive material is contacted with an original. The two are flash exposed to an electronic flash lamp using either direct or reflex exposure. The material is developed by (i) moistening water and transferring the unheated polymer areas to a receptor sheet or (ii) rubbing with water to remove the unheated areas.
