Abstract

1,154,568. Thermographic processes. GEVAERT-AGFA N.V. June 24, 1966 [Nov. 26, 1965], No.50441/65. Heading G2C. A thermographic process which comprises placing the light-absorbing image portions of an original in contact with a supported heat-sensitive gelatine layer containing a light-absorbing heatgenerating substance and exposing to light of such intensity and such duration through the original that the light transmitted in the background areas of the original is absorbed in the gelatine layer causing it to be heated and thus increasing the water-solubility or water-absorbing capacity of the gelatine. The latent image thus produced may be developed by (i) dipping in water and rubbing away the heated areas of the gelatine to leave a relief image or (ii) dipping in water contacting with a receptor sheet e.g. Japan paper and transferring the water-soluble areas to produce e.g. a stencil. Coloured originals may be produced by using in the heat-sensitive layer pigments of colours complementary to the colours in the original. The light exposure is preferably less than 10<SP>-1</SP> second and of high intensity. Preferably the gelatines used are those listed in Specification 985,933.
