Abstract

1,154,991. Hammer mills. D. C. A. CORP. 18 July, 1967 [18 July, 1966], No. 33039/67. Heading B2A [Also in Division F4] A drying and pulverising apparatus for material, e.g. animal waste matter, comprises a housing 10 through which the material is conveyed from an upper hopper assembly 30 and an apertured upper vibratory tray assembly 40, whereon the material is partially dried, to a hammer mill 60 positioned adjacent the lower end of the tray 40 and thereafter the material passes serially down inclined and vibratory imperforate conveyors 51, 52, 53 for complete drying to a blower assembly 100 which pneumatically discharges the dried material. The material is dried by hot gases from a heater 90 within the housing which pass upwardly over and about the conveyors and tray to an exhaust conduit 21 having a solenoid-actuated cover plate 22 thereover. The hammer mill may have a curved, materialengaging, arms to assist in scooping the material back towards the upper section of the tray until it is sufficiently particulate to pass through the perforations therein the hopper assembly 30 comprises an endless belt conveyor 36 and a means 121 is associated with the hopper to sense the level of material thereon and to interrupt the flow thereonto, and a further sensing means (not shown) senses the quantity of material on the tray 40 and controls the supply of material from the hopper.
