Abstract

1275029 Sifting apparatus J CAMAIL 19 April 1971 [10 March 1970] 23224/71 Heading B2H An apparatus for classifying and cleaning grain comprises a container 45 accommodating a first inclined plane 8 onto which the grain to be sorted and cleaned is fed, a pivotable spreader 9 for distributing the grain in the form of a substantially uniform sheet over the width of the plane 8, a pouring ramp 14 for the classified and cleaned grain including a perforated portion 14', a chimney 17 opening into the container substantially opposite the perforated portion 14', a fan 18 within the chimney with its intake towards the perforated portion, a second inclined plane 24 the upper end of which is at substantially the same level as the perforated portion, and which is substantially opposite the intake of the fan 18, an inclined flap 28 the upper end of which is at substantially the same level with the upper end of the second inclined plane 24, and one or more vibrating grids 41, 42 disposed between the perforated portion 14' and the chimney 17, the grain and waste being classified by falling on the pouring ramp 14, the second inclined plane 24 and the inclined flap 28. The plane 24 and the flap 28 are pivotable about axes 26, 27 and are clamped in any desired position. The vibrating grids 41, 42 are detachably carried by a support 39 mounted on flexible suspension elements 40 and linked to an eccentric 38 belt-driven by a motor 35. The inclined plane 8 is fitted with a pivotable, perforated flap 12 upstream of the grids 41, 42. In operation, the grain to be classified is poured into a hopper 3 and falls past a regulating shutter 4 on to an inclined perforated wall 5. The large waste which does not pass through the perforations in the wall 5 is conveyed to a spout 6. The grain and the small waste pass down the inclined plane 8, through the flap 12 and on to the grid 41. The fan 18 sucks air through the perforated portion 14' and the grids 41, 42 so that light waste is aspirated through the chimney 17. The good grains pass through the grids 41, 42 and fall on to the inclined plane 14 and into a spout 15. The broken and small grains are conveyed along the grids 41, 42 by the airdraught and pass through the grids to fall into the passage between the plane 24 and flap 28 and thence to a spout 25. The waste which is lighter than the broken and small grains but heavier than the waste sucked through the chimney 17 is carried along by the air-draught for a longer time and falls into a spout 30 passing either through the grids 41, 42 or through a free space between the end of the support 39 and the lateral wall of the container.
