Abstract

1320571 Drying bulk material ORGANIC POLLUTION CONTROL CORP 21 July 1970 [31 July 1969] 35308/70 Heading F4G Animal waste material (or chemicals or food) is transferred from a mixing bin 21 by a supply conveyer 22 to a housing 24 to be pulverized, sieved, and heated, and is removed from the housing 24 by a discharge conveyer 69 incorporating a moisture-sensing device; if the moisture content of the treated material is below a chosen value untreated material is introduced into the mixing bin 21 by means of a conveyer 20 activated by the moisture-sensing device, so that the bottom of a return conduit 70 is covered and treated material discharged at 71; if the moisture content of the treated material is above the chosen value the conveyer 20 is halted so that the conduit 70 is uncovered ands returns the treated material to the mixing bin 21 for recycling. The conveyer 22 delivers the material to a pulverizing rotor 23 which creates and flings particles up a rotating duct 29, 30 on to a receiver 31 having a sieving section 43. The particles passed by the sieving section 43 fall via baffles 38-41 and past gas burner 65 on to a collector 37 and thence through an opening 66 into a hopper 68 communicating with the discharge conveyer 69; particles not passed by the sieving section 43 fall down a column 42 to the pulverizing rotor 23. The column 42 (carrying the receiver 31, baffles 38-41 and collector 37) is carried by a resiliently-suspended sub-frame 44 which is vibrated by an eccentric mechanism. The exhaust gases are burned at 76 by adding air or fuel gas, and the combustion products are recirculated (not shown) to the housing 24. The fires may be screened out of the conveyer 69 and returned to the mixing line 21.
