Abstract
1,154,778. Ultimate tensile strength machines. BÍHLER & CO. A.G., GEB. April 11, 1968 [April 13, 1967], No. 17511/68. Heading G1S. The force required to sever a flat test piece held between two knife edges is used to determine the directly related ultimate tensile strength of the test piece and the force is measured by a gauge 19 connected to a fluid filled space 17 pressurized by a piston 20 pushed downwardly by a screw 21 and crank handle 22. The pressure is transmitted to a key and slot guided punch 5 mounting a square sectioned member 6 provided with four knife edges, only one of which edges at a time is used to cut through a test piece 10 held against a similar knife edge member 4 mounted in an abutment 3. Figs.3-5 (not shown) illustrate a tool used for positioning the piece 10 between the knives.
