Abstract

1,154,244. α-Phenoxyisobutyric acid derivatives. INSTITUTO FARMACOLOGICO SERONO S.p.A. 6 May, 1966 [14 May, 1965], No. 20254/66. Heading C2C. Novel compounds of Formula I wherein R is hydrogen, chlorine or methoxy and R 1 is dimethylamino-, diethylamino-, piperidino-, or morpholino-ethyl radical, or dimethylamino-, diethylamino-, or morpholinoethoxyethyl radical, and salts thereof with hydrochloric or citric acid, are prepared by reacting the appropriate aminoalcohol or aminoalkoxyalcohol with α-phenoxyisobutyric acid chloride, α-(O-methoxyphenoxy) isobutyric acid chloride or α-(O-chloromethoxy) phenoxyisobutyric acid chloride, in an organic solvent at boiling point, in the presence of an organic base, and converting the ester to a salt by treatment with hydrochloric or citric acid. Therapeutic compositions having anti-tussive activity contain as active ingredient the novel citrates and hydrochlorides of compounds of Formula I above. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 992,152.
