Abstract

Substituted 9,10-dihydroanthracene-9,10-imines and heterocyclic aza analogues thereof, and also pharmaceutically acceptable acid addition salts, are prepared. The said compounds have the following formula <IMAGE> in which the substituents are defined in Claim 1. The compounds are obtained by reacting an appropriate isoindole with an appropriate "hetarene" or "benzene", a Diels-Alder addition reaction taking place. The "hetarene" or "benzene" is preferably obtained in situ from a corresponding ortho-dihalo- or a monohalo-substituted aromatic or heteroaromatic compound. The said compounds can be used as weakly acting tranquillisers, spasmolytic agents, muscle relaxants and in the treatment of extrapyramidal disorders, e.g. Parkinson's disease.
