Abstract

1,154,154. Surface condensers; heat exchange elements. JOHNSON CONSTRUCTION CO. A.B. 15 June, 1966 [16 June, 1965], No. 26588/66. Heading F4S. A heat-exchange and condenser element, designed for condensing gaseous media, comprises a number of hollow heat exchange segments which are arranged side by side with gaps therebetween, the segments being adapted to conduct a cooling medium and the gaseous medium to be condensed being forced to flow downwardly through the gaps. The segments are arranged so that their side edges are vertically orientated and their upper and lower edges lie in parallel planes which are disposed at an angle to the horizontal, there being a condensate collecting channel disposed below and parallel to the plane of the lower edges. In one form of embodiment (Fig. 1, not shown), the upper and lower edges of each segment are disposed at an angle to their side edges. In an alternative embodiment (Fig. 1a, not shown), the segments are made rectangular in shape and arranged in a stepwise fashion. In a further alternative embodiment (Fig. 2, not shown), the segments are constructed of corrugated plates whose upper and lower edges are inclined with respect to their side edges.
