Abstract

1,153,376. Electromagnetic disc brakes; friction clutches. J. BOBST ET FILS S.A. 23 June, 1967 [27 June, 1966], No. 29208/67. Headings F2C and F2E. In an electromagnetic disc clutch or brake comprising two discs adapted to be brought into frictional engagement electromagnetically, a sound deadening collar 3 is tightly clamped around each disc 1. A thin band 8 of a material deformable under the collar pressure is interposed between the collar 3 and its respective disc the band 8 taking the form of a band of asbestos, leather, plastics, hard rubber, lead or other soft material, or superimposed on overlapping layers of two or more of such materials. Each collar 3 may be tensioned by means of a screw member 5 provided with threads of opposite hand which engage in large portions 6 at the ends of the respective collar. In an alternative embodiment a metal collar may be shrunk on to each respective disc.
