Abstract

1,107,647. Pistons. G. J. GUEST. 16 Nov., 1966 [7 Oct., 1965], No. 42525/65. Heading F2T. A piston is formed from a disc of rigid synthetic plastics material (e.g. nylon or acetal resin) and is provided with a pressure face bounded by a lip 203, the shape of the disc being such that upon application of pressure in the cylinder, the disc is deformed to increase the effective diameter for sealing purposes. For a double-acting piston, two discs may be employed in back-to-back fashion, Figs. 5-7 (not shown), or a single disc may be used having lips on each face, Fig. 8 (not shown). Fig. 11 (not shown) illustrates a spigot connection (207) between the two discs.
