Abstract

1,068,721. Piston and stuffing-box packing. HALL & HALL Ltd. Jan. 6, 1966 [Feb. 23, 1965], No. 7774/65. Headings F2B and F2T. A header and packing ring comprises an annular body member 1 and a filling member 2 formed integral with each other or bonded together throughout their contacting surfaces, the body member being of less readily deformable material than that of the filling member and having exterior side walls 3 and a convex base which extends from and between the walls and includes two frusto-conical annular surfaces 6 at an angle to the walls. The surface of the member 1 in contact with the member 2 is formed by two frusto-conical surfaces 3 parallel with the surfaces 6 and joined by a channel 5. The filling member and body member may be of rubber and reinforced rubber, respectively. The filling member may have a planar surface 10, Fig. 7, remote from the body member. In use, the ring may be directly supported on a rigid gland ring 11, Fig. 7, having concave frustoconical surfaces 12 or, as shown, chevron packing-rings 13 and 14 may be interposed between it and the gland ring.
