Abstract

1,152,803. Rollers. BELOIT CORP. 11 Jan., 1967 [4 Feb., 1966], No. 1469/67. Heading F2U. In a roll for a paper-making machine comprising a roll shell 17 rotatably supported in bearings 19 in end brackets 18, and a rigidifying shaft 22 non-rotatably supported by ball-andsocket joints 33 in adjustable end brackets 32 and bearing mounted in shell 17 by bearing assembly 23, the shell is maintained substantially straight when under load by raising brackets 32 relative to the fixed brackets 18 by bolts 59 in threaded bores 61 to raise the ends of shaft 22 and hence exert an upward force on the centre of the shell at bearing 23. Lubrication for bearing 23 is fed through conduit 66 in the ball-and-socket joint 33 and feed line 63. The entire roll is vertically adjustable in a machine frame (73), Fig. 3 (not shown), and locked in position by a positioning nut 82.
