Abstract
1,152,091. Electro-depositing copper; cleaning niobium alloy surfaces. PECHINEY COMPAGNIE DE PRODUITS CHIMIQUES ET ELECTROMETALLURGIQUES. Jan. 4, 1967 [Jan. 6, 1966], No. 572/67 Headings C7B and C7E. A super-conducting niobium-base alloy body, e.g. containing 60-90% Nb and 40-10% Zr or Ti, is surface treated by degreasing e.g. using C 2 HCl 3 , deoxidizing and acid pickling e.g. in concentrated mixtures of HF-H 2 SO 4 and HF-H 2 SO 4 - HNO 3 respectively, then subjected to chemical action on the surface with an aqueous bath containing 10-100 g/l NH 4 F and 15-100 cc/l 40% HF solution, prior to electrolytic coppering, e.g. in a bath containing 300-600 g/l copper fluoborate and 30-60 g/1 fluoboric acid; a copper cyanide bath may be used. The body may be of wire and the coppering carried out continuously, the chemical baths alternating with distilled water baths.
