Abstract

1,152,043. Yarn coating apparatus. SINGERCOBBLE Ltd. 14 June, 1966 [24 June, 1965], No. 26791/65. Heading D1L. Apparatus for dyeing yarn comprises a moving yarn support surface, preferably a roller, having one or more dyestuff receiving formations therein e.g. continuous or discontinuous grooves, means for selectively feeding dye to the formations and guide means to position the yarn relative to the formations. In a preferred embodiment, the dye feeding means 13 comprises a plurality of applicator needles 13a connected to reservoirs 13b and positioned adjacent the formations in the support surface. A multiplicity of applicators may be provided for each formation. The guide means for the yarn may be constituted by the dye receiving formations in the support surface, ridges being provided between the grooves to maintain the yarn within the groove. A roller 15 is provided to press the yarn into contact with dye in the formations, a doctor blade 16 also being provided to clean the roller 15. A cleaning roller 18 may also be provided, which roller is preferably sponge covered and extends into a bath of detergent or solvent. Drying means may also be provided between the cleaning roller and the dye feed means to prevent migration of the dye within the formations. The yarn suppant roller may be covered with a resilient compressible material e.g. rubber or plastic, or alternatively the roller 15 may have a resilient surface and the support surface be non-resilient. The moving yarn support surface may also be in the form of an endless band, the speed of the surface being substantially equal to the linear speed of the yarn. The yarn support surface may be wholly or partly porous, and subjected to suction or pressure in the appropriate areas.
