Abstract

1,223,166. Dyeing carpets. E. KUSTER [trading as EDUARD KUSTERS MASCHINENFABRIK]. 4 Oct., 1968 ,[23 Dec., 1967], No. 47152/68. Heading D1L. In the dyeing of a continuous length of pile carpet material using a dye trough 3, immersed roll 4 and applicator doctor blade 5, application of dye to each edge of the non- pile backing is prevented by urging a collecting trough situated above each end of a transport roll 16 into contact with each edge 10 of the pile by means of linkage rods 11 which are maintained in contact with the upper surface of an adjacent roll 16a at an angle of 5-15‹ to the edge of the pile, the rods being attached by swivel connections 12 having limit switches to a carriage 13 having reversible lateral driving means. Roll 16a may be situated before or after (as shown) roll 16. One limit switch may be attached to each swivel connection or both limit switches may be attached to one swivel connection. A scraper (18, Fig. 4) for each end of roll 4 is attached by means of fixed rods 19 to carriage 13.
