Abstract

1,151,364. Cigarette making machines. SERVICE D'EXPLOITATION INDUSTRIELLE DES TABACS ET DES ALLUMETTES. 15 June, 1966 [17 June, 1965], No. 26596/66. Heading A2C. The invention relates to machines such as cigarette making machines which have an electric control system for stopping the machine if a faulty product issues from the machine. A faulty product is detected by a photo-electric cell and light source 1, 3, the output of which is fed to an amplifier comprising transistors 13-16 (powered from supply terminals 19, 20), a relay 4 being connected to the amplifier output. The contacts of relay 4 normally cause a relay 5 to be energized which connects machine terminals 19, 20 and charges a condenser 8, and lights a green lamp 17. In the presence of a faulty product relay 4 is energized to light a red lamp 18 and de-energize relay 5. De-energization of relay 5 breaks contacts 19, 20 to stop the machine, and allows condenser 8 to discharge through relay 6 and energize it. Relay 6 completes a holding circuit for itself and alters a function of the machine via contacts 21, 22. Meanwhile the capacitor 10 is being charged via a variable resistor 11 and a contact of the energized relay 4. After a suitable time delay the voltage across capacitor 10 is sufficient to energize relay 7 which closes the machine contacts 19, 20 so that manual operation of the button 12 to break the holding circuit of relay 6 restores the original machine function via contact 22 and production is re-commenced. If products are still faulty relay 7 will become de-energized again as condenser 10 is discharged and the contacts 19, 20 will again be broken. If the products are satisfactory the relay 4 is de-energized, relay 5 is energized to maintain contacts 19, 20 closed after relay 7 is de-energized, and the green lamp is again lit.
