Abstract
1,151,164. Spray burners; blast-furnace tuyeres. CENTRE NATIONAL DE RECHERCHES METALLURGIQUES. 12 Sept., 1967 [12 Sept., 1966 (2)], No. 41629/67. Headings F4B and F4T. A method of injecting liquid fuel into a shaft furnace 2 comprises introducing the fuel via a pipe 5 into an expansion chamber 6 where it is subjected to compressed atomizing air supplied between pipes 7 and 8, and then passing the mixture through a convergent-divergent tuyere 10, at the exit of which an oxidizing hot gaseous fluid is added from a main 1 to burn the fuel in the mixture before entry of the gaseous products into the furnace through a tuyere 4a. The liquid fuel may contain 5% water and the atomizing gas comprises an oxygen-rich gaseous mixture. In a modification of the apparatus of Fig. 1, the end of pipe 5 is split into a number of smaller pipes each opening into chamber 6 opposite a port therein through which the atomizing gas enters tangentially.
