Abstract

1,150,950. Epicyclic friction gearing. JACKSON BROS. (LONDON) Ltd. 27 Sept., 1967 [7 Oct., 1966], No. 44939/66. Headings F2D and F2Q. In a hand-driven epicyclic gearing comprising planetary balls 7 located in a driven cage member 4 and engaging a driving shaft 8 and an annulus 6, the annulus 6 is held frictionally against rotation within a housing sleeve 5 by a retaining member 11 having a group of springy fingers 13. The member 11 has a hub portion 12 and each finger 13 formed with an outwardly inclined portion 13a attached to a root portion 13b. Alternatively, the fingers may be formed alternately so that some diverge outwardly and some converge inwardly. Abutments 10 on a driving member 9 and driven member 4 coact to cause the members 9, 10 to turn bodily at the ends of the range of epicyclic movement. The abutments 10 may be omitted so that the mechanism serves constantly for epicyclic operation.
