Abstract

Machine guns.-Consists in cooling the barrels of automatic guns by providing in the space be. tween the barrel 6 and an outer casing 5 a number of annular disks 7 with staggered openings 10 which permit a current of air, produced by the ejector action of the gun gases at the front of the barrel, to enter the rear of the casing 5 through holes (not shown) and to pass in a zigzag course over the barrel. The disks 7 are welded to the barrel 6 and the openings 10 have serrated edges as shown in Fig. 3. The current of air is induced by the escape of the gun gases through inclined apertures 31 at the muzzle end of the barrel.
