Abstract

1,150,154. Applying hot melt adhesive to wrapping material. ADOLPH GOTTSCHO Inc. 15 Aug., 1966, No. 36489/66. Heading B8C. A heated roller 50 (Fig. 1) printing a pattern of hot melt on to a web W is slightly smaller than is proper for lengths of the web cut-off in packaging machine 30 from which the roller is driven, so that there is some slip between the web and the roller to avoid cumulative errors in registration of the pattern with the sections. In the form illustrated the web is fed by rollers 132, and cut by rotary members 134, and the registration of the web with the pattern is adjusted by moving a roller 118 forming a bight in the web. The web may be cooled before being used for wrapping. The printing roller 50 is heated by oil passed through its interior. The oil also circulates through passages in the walls of the bath for the hot melt, and is heated by electric elements. A doctor blade 84 is heated electrically.
