Abstract

1,149,964. Jet propulsion units. PLESSEY CO. Ltd. Sept.23, 1966 [Oct.19, 1965], No.44339/65. Heading F1J. A propulsion unit comprises a decomposition chamber in which a mono-fuel is decomposed, the products of decomposition being discharged into a mixing chamber where they are mixed and burned with air or other gaseous medium containing oxygen, the resulting combustion gases being discharged in the form of a propulsion jet. In the embodiment shown mono-fuel is decomposed in the chamber 1 and the resulting decomposition products discharge into the mixing chamber 2 drawing in air as indicated by the arrows 3. The mixture of decomposition products and air burns in the chamber and the resulting gases discharge through the nozzle 4 in the form of a propulsion jet. The air-flow into the chamber 2 may be assisted by the ram action.
