Abstract

The ram jet engine has a combustion chamber having an inner sleeve (3) provided with lateral openings (34) for the entry of combustion air. The downstream end of the sleeve has an exhaust nozzle for combustion products. An outer sleeve (4) surrounding the inner sleeve and nozzle has a relatively smaller nozzle for exhausting rocket fuel (1) contained in the chamber. When latter fuel is used up the downstream part of the outer sleeve is moved or ejected to free the inner sleeve for air -breathing combustion.
